About Us

North East Islamic Centre – Jamia Umar Farooq was established with a simple yet meaningful vision: to provide a place of worship, community, and belonging for Muslims in Hoosick Falls and the surrounding community. NEIC is registered as a a non-profit organization recognized by IRS as a 501(C)(3) Tax-Exempt Organization.

The project began in early 2025, recognizing a genuine need within the local Muslim community. Through frequent travel throughout the area, we saw that Muslim families in Hoosick Falls and the surrounding communities had limited access to a nearby mosque, with no established masjid serving the area within approximately a 40-mile radius. What began as an idea to meet this need gradually became a community effort to establish a permanent house of worship.

The building that would become the North East Islamic Centre was originally an church building that had been put up for sale. The opportunity came to transform this existing place of worship into a mosque— a place where people could gather, worship Allah, learn, support one another, and build a lasting community.

The center held its first Friday Jumu’ah prayer on July 31st, 2026, marking an important milestone in the journey and the beginning of a new chapter for Muslims in Hoosick Falls and the surrounding area.

At the heart of Jamia Umar Farooq is the fundamental Islamic belief in the Oneness of Allah and the teachings of His final Messenger, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Islam places worship at the center of a believer’s life through the five daily prayers, fasting, charity, and living according to the guidance of the Qur’an and Sunnah. Our goal is to provide a place where these values can be practiced, strengthened, and shared within a welcoming community.

The name Jamia Umar Farooq honors Umar ibn al-Khattab (رضي الله عنه), one of the great companions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, whose life is remembered for faith, justice, strength, humility, and service to the Muslim community. The name North East Islamic Centre reflects our location in the Northeastern United States and our desire to serve the Muslim community in this part of New York.

North East Islamic Centre is a completely independent community with no affiliation to another mosque or organization. Its foundation is rooted in the sincere efforts of local Muslims coming together for the sake of Allah and establishing a place where people can pray and come together as a community.

While our journey is still beginning, our vision extends beyond the five daily prayers and Jumu’ah. In the future, we hope to offer Qur’an education for children and adults, Islamic learning opportunities, community volunteering, food and essential-supply assistance, and other programs that benefit those in need.

We also envision the mosque as a safe, welcoming space for the wider community—a place where families can gather for Eid celebrations, marriage celebrations, monthly family gatherings, educational programs, and other community occasions.

Ultimately, Jamia Umar Farooq is more than a building. It is an effort by a community to establish a house of Allah, a place of worship, learning, service, and togetherness. We pray that this center will continue to grow into a source of benefit for Muslims and the wider community for generations to come, Insha’Allah.

May Allah accept this effort, bless this house of worship, and make it a means of bringing people closer to Him and to one another. Ameen.
